El Niño is a natural climate pattern that begins with unusually warm water in the Pacific Ocean. This warming changes winds and rainfall patterns around the world, resulting in too little rain in some countries and dangerously heavy rain in others.
This year, a powerful El Niño is expected to bring extreme weather, severe droughts and destructive floods to many of the countries where CAFOD works.
CAFOD is working with our local partners to monitor what El Niño could mean for the communities we work alongside.
