Five hopeful New Year’s resolutions for change in 2025

We look forward to 2025 as a year of Jubilee and resolution! Pope Francis has asked us to be Pilgrims of Hope throughout this Jubilee year – to act as tangible signs of hope – so we can all build a better world.

You did so much in 2024.

Despite the vast challenges at home and around the world – families struggling to get enough food, communities doing their best to adapt to climate change, and more women, men and children being forced from their homes because of conflict – you reached out with love.

Your kindness and compassion helped people to build real and lasting change in their own lives.

If you haven’t started your New Year’s resolutions for 2025, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Here’s a little help from CAFOD staff on how they’ll be using their resolutions to live out their faith and realise change throughout Jubilee year 2025.

1. Give

Hannah Patterson – fundraising:

"Because it’s the start of a Jubilee year as well as a new year, I’m determined to pledge a monthly gift as a recommitment to our global family. It will help our amazing local experts to be there for a community before, during and after a crisis – big or small. And I’ll get an email each Friday with prayers and reflections for the rest of the year as well!”

Our weekly email reflections include reflections on the Sunday gospel, and ways in which you and the wider CAFOD family can give, act and pray with us during the Jubilee Year.

If you'd prefer, you can sign up for weekly reflections without pledging a monthly donation.

2. Act

Helen Moseley - advocacy and campaigning:

"In the Jubilee Year I will be campaigning for change to the new global debt crisis, which is affecting 54 countries and causing untold suffering for our sisters and brothers around the world as public services are cut and costs spiral."

Low-income countries are in the midst of the worst debt crisis in history. Pope Francis has called for action on this in the Jubilee Year 2025.

3. Pray

Catherine Gorman – theology:

“Making more time for prayer is something that many of us try to do as part of our new year's resolution. If it's one of yours this year, especially during this Jubilee Year, why not sign up to our weekly emails? These short reflections on the Sunday gospel encourage us to take a moment and make space for prayer in our busy lives."
