Ruwadzano (left) with people from a village that she helps support.
Jesus answered them, ‘I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?’
Jesus is accused of blasphemy, and the crowd pick up stones. In his defence he points to his deeds, which reveal that “the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
Jesus’ works of preaching, healing, forgiving, feeding the hungry and reaching out to those on the margins of society all point to God’s realm of justice and peace.
Ruwadzano works for Caritas Zimbabwe in the diocese of Chinhoyi, where some of the gardens from this year's Lent appeal are planted. She shares with us a beautiful Shona prayer song, translated here, which inspires her good works:
Lord, give us mercy, give us energy to help the vulnerable,
to help those who are hungry.
Give us energy to share what we have.
Give us wisdom to think based on how we help those who are vulnerable in our society.
Give us resources so that we continue helping the vulnerable.
Just as Jesus revealed his Father, so we are called to reveal Jesus to the world through our works of compassion, forgiveness and justice. Let’s pray today that our works will always point to the Lord.
Prayer
Lord, give us mercy,
give us energy to help the vulnerable,
to help those who are hungry.
Give us energy to share what we have.
Give us wisdom to think based on how we help
those who are vulnerable in our society.
Give us resources
so that we continue helping the vulnerable.
Amen.
